A Massachusetts company has unveiled a THC cannabis-infused brownie that weighs 850 pounds.
MariMed, Inc., a multi-state cannabis operator, concocted the soft-baked brownie at their processing and cultivation facility in New Bedford, Mass.
“There were five to six people that were really focused on this brownie for several weeks,” Ryan Crandall, who is the chief product officer and senior vice president of sales for the company, said Wednesday, which was National Brownie Day.
The brownie is potentially the largest confection of its kind across the globe, measuring 3 feet wide by 3 feet long and 15 inches tall.
“We ultimately scaled up that brownie to a place where we really couldn’t fit a bigger brownie in the oven,” Crandall said.
“We went out and found a big enough sheet pan to stabilize it and it took literally a lot of ingenuity to get it in and out of the oven, which was not easy,” he added.
The brownie also contains 20,000mg of THC, which is an abbreviation for tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces a high sensation.
Crandall said there are also many health benefits of marijuana, as it’s been widely reported that it’s often used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including cancer, glaucoma, and other issues.
“We know that cannabis provides relief to a lot of different things that pain people in their lives, whether that’s sleep, or pain, or stress and anxiety, or just trying to relax overall,” he said.
“We feel like cannabis, more so than alcohol or any other vices, if you will, cannabis tends to uplift people, uplift their spirit, uplift emotionally, (and) reduce inflammation in the body. We feel like all the research in cannabis is still ahead of us, so anything we can do to contribute create great products that people can incorporate in their lives and use on appropriate occasions is the direction we head all our products in.”
He also said it helped him with symptoms caused by ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, while he was in college.
“I got involved in cannabis years and years ago and I felt like throughout college, cannabis actually helped me,” he said.
“I was diagnosed with ADHD during my time in college and prescribed a bunch of drugs and it wasn’t until I went through all those and found that they didn’t really work for me that I discovered cannabis personally.”
At that point, he said, he started doing more research about cannabis. He learned can be used as medicine.
“I realized that it can help people in a lot of different ways,” Crandall said.
“In our product formulations, we want to create the best tasting products that consumers will want to enjoy.”
Crandall also said the company baked the brownie to commemorate the launch of Bubby’s Baked Brand, a new edible.
They are made with all-natural ingredients, with each single-serving bite containing 5 milligrams of THC.
Crandall added that the brownie was baked to help promote the product, as well as build camaraderie at the company, especially as the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic.
“We decided it was going to be a great opportunity for us to make something that hadn’t been made before and provide excitement for the team and for the market,” he said.
So, what’s going to happen to the brownie now that it’s been baked?
Crandall said the company is hoping to create medical servings of the brownie, but nothing is official yet.
“We are still determining how we are going to proceed with the brownie in accordance with the state regulations,” he said.
